The Old Man of Coniston

Alderley Edge is perfectly located for easy access to 4 of the UK’s National Parks. Located just a stone’s throw from the Peak District, whilst the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Snowdonia National Parks are still only 1-2 hours drive away.

Today I ventured out to the Lake District to tackle the magnificent Old Man of Coniston. After a dusting of snow over the weekend, the skies were blue and the temperature bitter cold, all perfect conditions for a brazing December hike. With the short day and winter conditions it pays set off early and be well equipped, the temperature certainly dropped quickly with altitude and there was a fresh breeze atop the Old Man.

In these conditions it was a tough day, a first test for my new Scarpa Delta GTX boots, and walking poles were essential particularly for the descents.
